Starting up the company construction office Hauber

Actually it started with a disaster in 1965: -  with floods at the river Inn near Braunau, where a friend of Siegfried Hauber, founder of the company, worked as a curate in a Diaspora parish. The floods washed a promised sum of DM 1000 for the refurnishment of a youth room virtually down the drain. Mr. Hauber was spontaneously prepared to collect 2/3 of the sum by organising a private fund raising campaign amongst his friends.

This campaign led him to a parish councillor in Nürtingen, who was also Managing Director of a local knitwear company then. In his garage he had the first foil wrapping machine in the world. It had a protective control device. Mr. Hauber had the idea to replace it by semiconductor devices. The prototype soldered together in the Hauber’s living room straightaway worked. So the question raised
whether to go into self employment or to remain at the Heller company?

The answer came in a New Year’s sermon of a young curate on 1st January 1966 at 10 pm in the Lutheran Church in Nürtingen. He said: “On New Year’s Day people have always made the resolution to make changes. Should anyone be present who wants to start something
new he should do it and put his trust in God.” That was the moment the young Hauber family decided to change the nursery in their home  into an office and the small flour room of the old Hauber bakery into a workshop.

On 1st July 1966, the „Construction Office Hauber“ was registered as a firm. Ten control systems for the serial packer to the total amount of DM 23 000 were first steps into a entrepreneur’s life. Shortly afterwards there were substantial construction orders for control
systems of palette transportation plants for linking the work centres at the fast press in Wiesloch. That required a lot of construction working hours, the first assistant had to be employed.  Until 1969 the workforce had grown to 4 employees, and the premises in the Paulinenstraße became too small.
